Hiroshige Ando
(1797-1858)

Born in Edo period, and became a disciple of Utagawa Toyohiro.
He learned about Bijin-ga (women portraits), and mostly designed the beauties in beginning. But the people were getting bored of the subject. Hiroshige, perceiving the mood, changed his subject to landscapes and this made a big success.
Especially in 1832, he designed the 53 stations of Tokaido and became one of the greatest designers in Edo.His realistic and objective view for design achieved in giving graphic expression to japanease climate, weather and geographical features.
