About artist

He was born in Kyoto in 1935. Gradureated from Kyoto Art University with a major in Japanese painting.
Received many art prizes, including special top prize at France-Japan Art Exhibition,etc...
He is a Kyoto city-authorized teacher of brush painting.
Today many Japanese painters are influenced by western style oil painting method though they use paint made from ground rock instead of oil.
But S.Tatsumoto is spending all his painting time pursuing the traditional Japanese painting method.
Traditional Japanese painting is basically SUMI-ING painting which is done in shades of black and gray in ONE BRUSH STROKE. If color is added, it is simply filled into the ink structure.
To learn this painting technique, one needs much practice, at least 20 years, if one starts as a teenager.
